The dual-mode mix-shield TBM used for the excavation is a unique prototype designed to bear a maximum pressure of 18 bar.

Karahnjukar Hydroelectric Plant

Iceland – Completed project

Located less than 200 km from the Arctic Circle, the Karahnjukar concrete-faced rockfill dam, with its 193 m in height, is the tallest dam in the Nordic region and the first of its kind in Europe. The main purpose of the project is to collect the glacier waters of the Jokulsa a Dal river in the Halslòn reservoir, for subsequent transfer to a 690 MW underground powerhouse.
